ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE

Environmental Justice (EJ) demands fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people with respect to development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, policies and activities. It works best when communities are able to care for themselves and are able to determine their own environmental fate. The fundamental principal of EJ is that all stakeholders should have meaningful and informed participation in all aspects of environmental decision-making that could affect their community.

The 2012 EJ Conference will review the environmental justice movement and determine the State of Environmental Justice in America: What do we mean by Environmental Justice in the 2012? How will minority, low-income and Tribal communities participate in and contribute to the clean energy economy? How does climate change and clean coal impact environmental justice? A more complex and strategic assessment of environmental justice will be addressed at this exciting conference, to examine the state of the issue.

The 2012 conference will focus specific attention on clean energy. Our 2012 conference theme is Building the Clean Energy Economy With Equity – REVISITED! Energy still plays a dominant role in the economic recovery of America. Efforts led by various Federal agencies are fueling innovation and creating jobs. Environmental justice means that those who have suffered a disproportionate share of environmental burdens should enjoy some of the environmental benefits of publicly funded production activities. The conference will examine means to permit minority, low-income and Tribal communities to participate in the clean energy economy.

WHY YOU SHOULD PARTICIPATE AND SPONSOR

The State of Environmental Justice in America 2012 conference is exciting because it is a unique opportunity to bring together participants from diverse perspectives on environmental justice. This timely and inclusive 2012 conference welcomes people and organizations that may have never been able to openly discuss environmental justice to engage a variety of viewpoints and environmental justice strategies. Anyone who is interested in environmental justice clean energy, green jobs, and related issues is invited to participate.

Over the years, environmental justice has broadened in scope and now impacts even more community and policy discussions including architecture and green buildings, brownfields, green jobs, clean energy, community development, economic development, environmental regulations, gentrification, governance, housing, planning, smart growth, sustainability, transportation, unions, and almost all industries. It is vital that participants in these discussions and policy formulations attend this conference.
